Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's divorce from the family members, she was grew up by her mother godparents and grandmother. When she was a young girl she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder, suffering anxiety related to word associations. Ford became interested in the acting profession during her teenage years and she joined National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a month, she decided that it wasn't the right fit for her. Ford returned to Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth attempt she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however in the meantime she was already making her TV debut on an episode from 1991 in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". In the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate also regularly worked as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of in the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate was recognized for her stand-up comedy that became part of her repertoire in 1996.
